Tracing Archaea

by admin on November 4, 2020

I have an art show! Yes, I’m not only a shopkeeper or bookbinder… I actually do have an art background, which has finally come to the fore after a few years’ hiatus.

Sauropsid, 300mya

Tracing Archaea excavates recent scholarship in molecular biology to reveal an artistic dig-site.

Using the geneological shorthand of lineage, my work details the maleability of biological life over earth’s eons, using actual carved lines in wood panels, mimicking the appearance of a spent printing woodblock.

A series of 9 square paintings takes viewers on a long walk, leap-frogging back though 800 million years of history, being continually researched by scientists through fossils, isotopes and triangulation.

The work confirms our unmistakable connections with all life on earth.

The work is on display at the R.D. Abrams Gallery in Durham (211 Garafraxa St N), November 6 through 27. Hours I will be there are (Tuesdays and Fridays): Nov 6, 7-9pm; Nov 10, 13, 17, 20, 24 and 27, 6-8pm, or by appointment.
