Fine Arts Workshops Spring 2024

Bookbinding I, a comprehensive intro course

During six days, participants will receive hands-on instruction using a variety of tools and materials. The workshop starts with making simple but beautiful pamphlet structures, leading up to the binding of two hardcover books. You will gain the knowledge and skills you need to further explore bookbinding independently or pursue other courses. Offered through Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG), this workshop is the first of their core-curriculum and is a prerequisite for many other courses. When: Saturday-Sunday-Monday: 27, 28, 29 April, plus 4, 5, 6 May. Where: The Colour Jar, 120 Garafraxa St N, Durham Ontario. Time: 9am to 4pm daily. Introduction to Painting Outdoors (plein air)
We all know spending time outdoors is healthy for us, so why not combine it with a great activity: making art! Whether you prefer acrylics, pastels or oils, (or haven’t decided) many aspects of it are applicable to any medium: site selection, gear, and the ever-changing weather, to name a few. We’ll start indoors with the basics and then head out to paint. Materials supplied. When: Sunday, June 2, 2 to 4:30pm. Cost: $55.

Classic Drawing
Drawing is the foundational skill in most art practices, and remains a vital art form on its own. You will become more adept at observing and interpreting your subject, and using full value ranges. When: June 6 and 13, 10am to noon. Cost: $60 plus materials (list supplied on request).
