Recently we had the opportunity to work on an old family photo album. Here are some photos documenting the process.
The album had a padded cloth cover with large metal hinges and a hasp. The spine was completely deteriorated.
Inside, the still board pages were mostly separated, as the cloth hinges had torn with use.

The paper covering the boards is carefully lifted and the old cloth is removed.
New cloth strips are cut.
The new strips are glued in and creased to fold into the next page.
The next page is added.
The stack of pages growing and being pressed. Alignment of each page is an important step.
When the pages are all bound together, I consider the cover. The inner paper hinge will be replaced with cloth. The wood shavings acting as padding are tidied, as well as the old cloth. I re-nailed the wood frame to strengthen.
